Wild Yam Alcohol-Free Liquid Extract — Dioscorea villosa Dried Tuber Glycerite
Wild yam (Dioscorea villosa) is a twining herbaceous vine of the Dioscoreaceae family, native to the woodlands and thickets of eastern North America. The slender stems climb several metres over shrubs and fences, bearing heart-shaped leaves with prominent parallel veins and small greenish-yellow flowers, followed by three-winged papery capsules. The part used is the knotty underground tuber and rhizome, dug in autumn, sliced and dried. Dried wild yam tuber is hard, pale brown outside and cream within, with almost no scent and a starchy, slightly bitter taste.
The raw material is ethically wild harvested, or grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. Extraction is by classical maceration at the lowest practical temperature, in a base of vegetable glycerin and purified artesian water — glycerin and water are the only solvents. The product contains no alcohol, no added sugar, no preservatives and no artificial colours. Its mildly sweet taste comes from the vegetable glycerin itself.
Every incoming batch is tested in our own laboratory to confirm botanical identity and consistency, using HPTLC fingerprinting and FTIR spectral analysis, alongside microbiological screening, viscosity and refractometric measurement. Quality control is guided by USP, Ph. Eur., ISO 17025 and cGLP standards, and a certificate of analysis is available for every batch. Produced at an FDA-registered facility in Honolulu, Hawaii, and shipped from our EU warehouse.
