Burdock Dried Root Alcohol-Free Liquid Extract — Arctium lappa Dried Root Glycerite
Burdock (Arctium lappa) is a large biennial of the Asteraceae family, native to Eurasia and naturalised in North America on waste ground and field margins; in Japan it is grown as the vegetable gobo. In the first year it forms a rosette of very large heart-shaped leaves, woolly beneath, above a long taproot that can reach a metre. The part used here is that first-year root, lifted in autumn, washed, sliced and dried. Dried burdock root is greyish-brown outside and off-white within, hard and fibrous, with a faint earthy scent and a sweetish taste turning slightly bitter.
The raw material is carefully selected. Extraction is by classical maceration at the lowest practical temperature, in a base of vegetable glycerin and purified artesian water — glycerin and water are the only solvents. The product contains no alcohol, no added sugar, no preservatives and no artificial colours. Its mildly sweet taste comes from the vegetable glycerin itself.
Every incoming batch is tested in our own laboratory to confirm botanical identity and consistency, using HPTLC fingerprinting and FTIR spectral analysis, alongside microbiological screening, viscosity and refractometric measurement. Quality control is guided by USP, Ph. Eur., ISO 17025 and cGLP standards, and a certificate of analysis is available for every batch. Produced at an FDA-registered facility in Honolulu, Hawaii, and shipped from our EU warehouse.
